when i want to link only the chart position, and not the symbol, i select this link option only. then i change the symbol of this chart. however sierra links the symbol as well, changing the symbol of my other charts when in fact this link option was NOT selected.

not only does this incorrectly change the symbol of my other charts, it sets one of them to Historical mode, and does not allow changing back to Intraday mode. this is baffling. having to rebuild this chart because of this bug causes all kinds of further problems due to referenced studies.

please fix chart linking to behave more professionally.

Improvements to chart linking have been made in the latest prerelease.

Not sure why you would have any problem with the chart data type in a chart changing when the symbol changes, but that could not be a problem in the latest version due to how the symbols for Historical charts are now managed.

that is not accurate. i am using the latest prerelease, downloaded tonight.

the workaround for the 2nd issue (charts flip to Historical mode for no reason) is to select Find in the Symbol box, then SELECT (do not type) the desired symbol from the list. this will allow Intraday mode to be selected. however if the user types in desired symbol into Chart Settings>Symbol box, or the symbol search dialogue box that opens, then the chart will stay locked in Hist mode.

perhaps this gives you a better clue on where the problem lies.

please remember the first issue is that even though Symbol link is unchecked, background charts get their symbol changed (because they do have Link Symbol checked). still, this is non-intuitive since the user clearly does not want the current chart's symbol to affect the other linked charts (because it is unchecked).

I take a chart that has all linkings except Symbol, and duplicate it. I go in the settings of the newly created chart, and remove linking for Scroll Position, Studies, and Bar Spacing.

When I change the new chart's bar spacing, it does not affect the others, which is correct. However, the scroll position is still being linked, as are the studies.

If I create a new, blank chart, and set the linking of the new chart to link only scroll position and bar spacing, when I click "OK" to exit the settings, the old charts are set to match the new chart's Bar Period, even though it is not linked.

So the new functionality is great, but there are some bugs to be worked out. Using 1232 currently; edit: tried with 1233, still same issues.

>>some other study which will cause the bar time period to be synchronized between the two charts.

i believe this is not applicable. yes this chart is Refd by another chart. so are others in the chartbook. i do not understand why just this one linked chart changes to Historical when in fact i do not have any Historical charts in the entire CB. i have seen this bug many times since i started working with SC (summer 2014) and it still exists in the latest prerelease.

both of these issues make no sense to me. this one smells like a bug and for the other, the link behaviour should behave more sensibly like so: if a chart is linked to other charts by say, only scroll position, and its symbol is changed, then regardless of which tick boxes are checked on the other linked charts, the darn symbol should not change. ie the current chart's settings should determine what is linked, otherwise one can only 1. tick only the same exact settings as the other charts or 2. fix all the other charts once the current chart messes them up upon hitting Apply.

thank you for the additional link features in the latest version. if it could perform intuitively that would be great.
