I understand that I can’t place an order when the market is closed, such as on the weekends, but is there a way to place an order when the market is closed that will execute as soon the market re-opens?

No but you can wait until Sunday evening in the case of CME futures and submit orders from about 17:30 US Eastern time onward. You should have no trouble submitting them 30 minutes ahead of time. Maybe even an hour but not sure about that.
