Request: Option for Instant Vertical Scrolling on Chart and DOM (Disabling Smooth Scroll)

Hi Sierra Chart Support,

I’d like to revisit the topic of vertical auto-scrolling behavior on charts and the DOM, which has been mentioned by other users but so far not gotten any reply.

I’m currently facing a situation where within my chart book I use some very short-term charts alongside the DOM, and the current smooth scrolling (vertically) behavior to keep current bar within view, can be problematic in fast-paced market conditions due to two main issues:

- Order Management Delay: When intending to manage bracket orders on these charts (chart trade mode), one would have to wait until the smooth scroll finishes before being able to interact with them and to move the bracket order lines. This can be frustrating when quick action is needed.

- Performance Impact: The smooth scrolling seems to consume noticeable system resources (on larger chartbooks). When any chart is auto-scrolling smoothly, I’ve observed that other charts suffer from reduced render performance and become jittery, until scrolling has finished. This can disrupt the monitoring flow of the observed instrument.

While the smooth scrolling feature generally improves chart readability, in this specific context — short-term timeframes and order management — I would strongly prefer an option for instant vertical scrolling (i.e., a hard jump to the new price area) instead of the animated slide.

Currently, the only workaround is disabling auto-scroll entirely in the scale settings ("Keep Last Bar Within View"). However, this also stops the chart from following price and requires manually moving the chart, which isn’t ideal - especially exactly on the shorter term charts which move out of range much more frequently.

What I’m looking for is:
- The chart/DOM continues to follow the most recent bar (as with "Keep Last Bar Within View"),
- But when a new price range needs to be shown, the view shifts instantly — without animation,
- And this behavior should be configurable per chart, not globally — so I can choose on a chart-by-chart basis whether or not smooth vertical scrolling is enabled.

Is there already a way to achieve this behavior, or would it be feasible to consider adding such an option in a future update?

Thanks a lot for your help, and for the continued development of Sierra Chart — it’s greatly appreciated.

Best regards.

Try this:

In scale settings for the chart, select "Re-center when last price exceeds a certain number of ticks from center".

Set Ticks from Center and Adjust Interval (ms) to 0.

Man that "Adjust Interval" property was exactly what I'm looking for.
Did overlook that.

Thanks a lot for that Input!
Request solved.
