[User Discussion] - Flagging up certain dates in a spreadsheet column

I want to flag up certain days. So I place an "X" in cell BB24, for example, in the same row as the date I want to flag. I then use column K to look for this "X" and if it is present, set the bar to a certain colour. I cannot get this to work. The reason is that when new data is added, the early columns are shifted down but column BB is not shifted down, so the "X" ends up against a different date. If I put this flag in one of the early columns such as column Y, it will be overwritten on updates, because the value in Y3 is copied down and overwrites the flags. So what I need is a column where rows can be added at the top but where the value / formula in the top row is not copied down. Is this achievable? Am I overlooking something obvious? Thank you. |

You would need to use a formula in row 3 of a Formula Column that returns TRUE when you would want an "X". Then this column's subgraph draw style can be set to Color Bar. If the "X" location is too subjective for a formula, you could list dates in column H, then use a formula to find matching dates in column A. Depending on other details, there may be other solutions. |

Tom Your first suggestion would not work because the flagged dates are not based on any formula. But the idea of keeping a list of the dates in Column H and looking them up sounds like a very good solution. Many thanks for that. |
