I'm trying to initiate a sell-stop order when the current price is below my entry price. When I initiate a sell-stop order in this scenario, I instantly enter the trade instead of waiting for price to hit my preferred entry price. How do I remedy this?

When placing a Sell order above the current market price, the exchange will see the current market price as better than the price at which you placed your order and therefore fill it at that price.

You need to enter the order as a Sell Stop-Limit in order to not have it fill immediately. Refer to the following:
Order Types: Stop-Limit
