It seems that when I have an open position with trailing stops/limit orders, the orders get closed when the market reopens for the extended hours session. The position remains open but the trailing stop goes away. I am wondering if there's a way to have these orders in the market and not have them close out. Additionally, I'm wondering if I'm able to have an open position with a trailing stop and limit order attached that remains open overnight once I shut my computer down? |

Start by looking at your Trade Activity Log and finding the Order that closed out the Trailing Stop that you had. Refer to the following: Trade Activity Log: Viewing Historical Trade Activity We wonder if this is being closed out by your broker, as holding overnight positions requires a different margin. You should check with them on what you are wanting to do and ensure that you are setup properly to do it. As to having orders when you shut down your computer, it depends on your trading service and the specific type of Stop/Limit orders you have. Refer to the following to start: Attached Orders: Introduction Most likely your attached orders are held on the exchange or at least an intermediary server so you do not need to worry about your local computer. But with an item like a Trailing Stop, your local software is the system that adjusts the trail amount and then modifies the Stop order. Therefore, your computer does have to be running in order for the trailing aspect to occur.
