[User Discussion] - Prior RTH Session Daily OHLC during Evening Session

I would like to draw the prior day's RTH High and Low on a TPO chart during the RTH and ETH sessions. I have added a Daily OHLC study to the TPO chart. It works great during the RTH sessions and plots the prior day's RTH Highs and Lows. However, at the start of the Evening Session, no lines are displayed. How can I configure the study so that at the start of the Evening Session the High and Low from the RTH session that just completed get plotted? Attached are the current Daily OHLC settings.

It appears you want the H/L to Graph Historically, then extend the final RTH values through the ETH, until the following RTH open.
Is this a correct understanding?

Hi Sawtooth--thank you for your reply. Yes, I think you have captured well, but just to be clear, here is an example:

At the beginning of Wednesday's ETH session, I would like Wednesday's RTH High and Low to be plotted during that ETH session and for those lines to remain through Thursday's RTH session, effectively plotting the previous day's RTH High and Low and displaying them during the ETH and RTH sessions. When Thursday's ETH session starts, I would then like for the lines to shift to Thursday's RTH High and Low and for this to then repeat daily.

Please let me know if you have other questions. Thanks again!

Is this what you want?
See attached.

Thank you for the example. However, I do not think that is exactly it.

Attached are three screenshots which include:
(1) the 1-4-24 RTH session
(2) the 1-4-24 ETH session
(3) the 1-5-24 RTH session

Please note that the pink TPOs represent the RTH sessions and the blue TPOs represent the ETH sessions.

Notice the 1-4-24 RTH Screenshot has the current day's High and Low and the Prior Day High (PDH) and Prior Day Low (PDL) working. On the 1-4-24 ETH Screenshot, which starts at 17:00 on 1-4-24, you see that the current day's High and Low and the PDH and PDL are no longer displayed. I would like for the 1-4-24 RTH High and Low to be displayed as the PDH and PDL beginning with the start of the ETH session.

On the 1-5-24 RTH Screenshot, you will see that everything works again. The PDL is partially displayed because the current day Low is covering it, but it is working. The issue is just during the ETH session.

Please let me know if you have any questions or if your example solves this riddle. Thanks again for all your help!

I would like for the 1-4-24 RTH High and Low to be displayed as the PDH and PDL beginning with the start of the ETH session.
My example does this.
It extends the final RTH H/L through the subsequent ETH, and also through the next RTH.

To do what I did:
- The Daily OHLC settings need to be as in the attached pic.
- The Session Times need to use the Evening Session, with a start time of 17:00:00

1. Add the Spreadsheet Formula study
- Set the Chart Region to 1
- Use a formula like this in its Formula field:
=IF(BARTIME=TIME(17,0,0),ID12.SG2[-1],ID13.SG1[-1])
where ID13 is this Spreadsheet Formula study
- Set the Draw Style to Dash
- Set the Short Name to PDH and check 'Name Label'

2. Duplicate the above Spreadsheet Study
- Use a formula like this in its Formula field:
=IF(BARTIME=TIME(17,0,0),ID12.SG3[-1],ID14.SG1[-1])
where ID14 is this Spreadsheet Formula study
- Set the Short Name to PDL.

Thank you again for your assistance. This is my first experience with the Spreadsheet Formula, so I am eager to learn more about it. I have followed all of your instructions, but I have one question: do I need to do anything regarding your statement: "where ID13 is this Spreadsheet Formula study"?

Please see the attached screenshots. During the RTH session, these instructions plot the PDL at the current day's High and the PDH at the prior day's Close.

During the ETH session, these instructions plot the PDH at the prior day's Close and does not display the PDL.

I am sure these errors are due to my inexperience, so any additional guidance would be very much appreciated.

Edit the formula to the ID# of the Spreadsheet Formula study you added. (It might not be ID13 for you.)
Same for ID14.

ID12.SG2 is the Daily OHLC High
ID12.SG3 is the Daily OHLC Low
These are the values these Spreadsheet Formula studies are making persistent.

Hi Sawtooth--I have made your suggested edits and it works great! I really appreciate all your help. Prior to posting the original message, I spent hours trying different configurations and researching the online documentation, but could not find anything that worked. Again, thank you so much!

Just out of curiosity, do the Spreadsheet Formula studies you instructed me to add require the Daily OHLC study or do they work independently of the Daily OHLC study?

Also, I noticed that if I move the chart to the right to see prior days and the current day moves off the screen, the PDH and PDL lines turn off. Is there a way to keep them displaying when the current day is off the screen?

The Spreadsheet Formula study does nothing if its formula does not reference a study or the main price graph.
In your case, ID12 is the Daily OHLC study, and that reference in the formula is what makes it work.

Is there a way to keep them displaying when the current day is off the screen?
You could be exceeding the Spreadsheet Study's 'Number of Bars to Calculate' setting.

Thank you for the further explanations.

When 'Number of Bars to Calculate' is set to 1, the PDH line disappears when the current day goes off the viewable edge of the chart. If 'Number of Bars to Calculate' is the default 2000, then as the current day or each prior day goes out of the viewable chart range the next PDH line is drawn. Is there another way to keep the most recent PDH and PDL lines on the chart even if that day is not in the viewable chart range?

Not with this current setup.

It would be possible to plot the most recent lines using another study, regardless of the viewable chart.
However, the lines of the other day(s) would also be displayed.
Is this OK?

It would require a custom ACSIL study if you only want the current lines drawn regardless of the viewable chart.

Thank you for your prompt reply and offering an alternative.

I will try what you have already provided during this upcoming week and if I miss the PDH and PDL lines, would it be ok for me to reach back out to you? I already feel like I have asked you lots of questions and I do not want to be a burden or disrespectful of your time. Please know that I am grateful and very appreciative for all your help and responsiveness. Thank you!

Yes, or you can Direct Message me, as the next step can consolidate the PDH/PDL lines into one study.
