In my head, this is how I plan on using SC. I would love to know if there is a better way to use all the many features of SC, or if this is even possible. I payed for package 12, and followed the work around to have access to cheap non-professional data. My plan is to use websockets and DTC protocol to pull historical data into a python strategy and backtest it. Then, upon meeting my benchmarks, use DTC and websockets again to receive live data, and send orders from that same python strategy to a broker that SC integrates with for paper and then live trading. My main goal is to make the switch from backtest, paper, and live accounts as seamless as possible. I am also the most confident in Python, which is why I want to use it if at all possible. |

You can not use DTC or any other method to get live data. The exchanges do not allow this.

Ok, so can you help me understand this line that is on the dtc protocol server documentation: "Sierra Chart provides a full DTC Protocol, server for market data and for trading." as well as why there is an option for market data request in the DTC message types. Can you talk me through where I misunderstand? I would also like to know how people use Sierra Chart in their automated trading strategies. It is obviously impossible to automate unless you have access to the data. Is it all done through ACSIL? Date Time Of Last Edit: 2024-01-03 17:17:18

It used to be allowed to do this, but due to changes in the exchange rules, this is no longer the case. That documentation needs to be updated.

Ok. Yea if you could that may save some people some headache:). So how do folks use Sierra Chart in their automated trading strategies. It is obviously impossible to automate unless you have access to the data. Is it all done through ACSIL?

Yes, it is done through ACSIL. The data is available within Sierra Chart.

Just so I can mentally close the book on this issue then, using the strategy I have built in python is not an option, at least at Sierra Charts, due to the impossibility of exporting data? The best option is to learn ACSIL

There was a customer who developed an ACSIL to Python bridge of some sort. Search the Support Board for it and you should find it.
