"Fill blanks with last value" not working

"In the add additional symbol" study, I have the "fill blanks with last value" input set to "Yes".

However, I am still getting blank periods on the chart for that study, which are NOT filled with the last value. If I scroll back to make those blank areas the last visible bars on the chart... the "last" value on the price scale for that symbol will disappear. I am using studies that reference both of these charts and this causes those studies to break.

I searched past support posts for clues but was unsuccessful.

I have an image attached.

That particular Input, "fill blanks with last value", does not affect historical daily charts. We have to add support for that. We will work on this.

Hello John Hello sierra_chart engineering,

Im attempting to chart a globex VPOC onto an RTH only chart, using the "Fill blanks with last value" setting to yes in the study, and it isn't working.

May I have some assitance?

It sounds like you are using the "Study/Price Overlay" study with the Input for "Fill Blanks with Last Value" set to "Yes". This is different from what was described above, as the above was for the "Add Additional Symbol" study.

For what you are wanting to do, the "Fill Blanks with Last Value" will only fill in when you are overlaying from a higher time frame chart to a lower time frame chart (such as a 5 minute chart to a 1 minute chart). In this case, the 5 minute bar can match up to any of 5 bars within the 1 minute chart, so if you want to see the information repeated across all 5 bars, then you would set "Fill Blanks with Last Value" to "Yes". Refer to the information for this Input at the following link:
Study/Price Overlay Study: Fill Blanks with Last Value

If does not answer your question, or if you believe it is not working as you are expecting, then we would need to see your chartbook by following these instructions (and tell us the chart #'s of the two charts you are dealing with):

Ah I see, yes, that’s correct, I’m using the study/price overlay study. My apologies. Also, thank you for the quick reply!

I’m trying to both extend the ETH VPOC (with its label+value) on a 1 tick Renko chart all the way to the right side of the chart scale (this chart is ETH+RTH, with ETH and RTH having their own VbP studies) and I’m trying to have this same VPOC appear on an RTH-only eight tick Renko chart.

If this is impossible, the other idea I had would be dumping the value into a spreadsheet, and then sticking the label and value onto the charts from the spreadsheet. However, I’m not aware on how to accomplish that this way yet.

I appreciate your time.

I can attach my chart book but before I do that, I wanted to ask if the above has a simple fix that I’m not seeing

We are not sure we fully understand the setup you have, so we are not sure of the exact solution, but we know there is one. The first question we have is whether you have used the Input for the VbP study for "Extend Point of Control" and set it to "End of Period"? You can use the Labels for the Point of Control subgraph as well. Refer to the following:
Volume By Price Study: Extend Point of Control

Another option is to use the "Study Subgraph Reference" and set it to reference the Point of Control from the VbP. You can set the line type to be one of the options such as "Line at Last Bar to Edge" to get the line where you want it. You can then use the labels as you want. Refer to the following:
Study Subgraph Reference

Hi John, The Study Subgraph Reference sounds like a good solution to this. I will give that a try, it might be easier and more efficient compared to what I did described below:

I think I may have gotten this working, here is what I did:

1) created ETH only chart, by substituting the ETH times into the session start/end times section
2) turned "use evening session" to off
3) added VbP study and set ETH VPOC (ONVPOC) to stairstep with name/value label
3a) "Calculate developing POC and Value Area" to YES.
3b) "Volume graph period type" to "Multiple Profiles from Start time to End time".
3c) Set Start time and End time to match exactly the chart session times this study is applied on
4) Overlaid this study using the Study/Price Overlay Study onto my main renko trading chart
5) monitored for errors during today's entire RTH session

to which I happily report it appears to be functioning as intended.

Please if possible leave this thread open, for if I encounter issues with this setup, I will reply here again :-)

Also yes, i did use extend point of control and set it to End of Period, the problem seems to be that the ETH VPOC will stop being graphed once 09:29:59 ET stops being within view as the market progresses in time. If i manually scroll back to view ETH, the ETH VPOC appears as inteded. Also yes I was using the labels in the POC subgraph.

Thank you team for your help once again
