I have alerts set up for connected and disconnected. They are in the Genera/alerts tab but don't sound when Sierra connects or disconnects.

You have specific alerts selected for Global Settings >> General Settings >> Alerts >> Server Connected Alert / Server Connection Lost Alert?

And are those alerts setup for sounds? Refer to the following:
General Settings Window: Sound File (Global Settings >> General Settings >> Alerts)

You have Alert 1 shown for the specific settings. Make sure Alerts 17 and 18 also have a sound associated with them.

They are. The alerts disappeared when I copied the menu.

On the Alerts page in the General Settings, when you select the "Test Sound" button for Alert 17/18 are you able to hear the sound?

If you can hear the sound when selecting the button, but do not hear the sound when you select "File >> Disconnect" or "File >> Connect to Data Feed", then go through the items here:
General Settings Window: Troubleshooting for Alert Sounds That Do Not Play

Duh!!!! I had muted alert sounds and forgot about it. Thank you. I'm sorry for bothering you.
