Hi I am experiencing something I don't understand. I am using volume charts and when I plot Uptick and Downtick volume, there are times when these values are greater than the volume per bar. Sometimes up to double the volume per bar. For example, the Uptick volume may be 100 where the chart is set to volume per bar of 50. When I plot Bid Volume or Ask Volume, I don't have the same problem.

Is this expected behaviour?

I am using Denali per tick intraday data and plotting SP500 emini.

What study are you using to get the Uptick/Downtick volumes?

The various different studies give the same results. I have tried Uptick Volume, Downtick Volume, Up/Down Volume Difference Bars, Number Bars Calculated Values. Here is an image of the chart that includes all these (plus the Bid and Ask Volume to show that these two work as expected). See the bar the blue line is pointing to.

Here's another screenshot with more extreme readings, far more than double the bar volume -- See the Downtick Volume. Or the Total Uptick Volume at 16:59:49.

Set Sierra Chart to a Tick by Tick Data Configuration. Follow the instructions here to do this:
Tick by Tick Data Configuration

And the total volume with those studies should not exceed the volume of the bar as you see with the Volume study:
Volume

You cannot look at the volume setting of the chart bars because the volume can be exceeded per bar.

The other possibility is that when you are using the split data records option:
Chart Settings: Split Data Records (applies to Number of Trades, Volume and Range charts) (Chart >> Chart Settings >> Chart Data >> Chart Data menu)

The uptick and down tick volume fields do not support the splitting of volume data. In which case they will not be accurate. This is something we cannot help with. Do not use these studies with variable time frame bars.

Can i ask a additional question, i see that there is bid ask volume and uptick downtick volume, with bid ask volume there is also bid/ask number of trades but not this for uptick/downtick volume.

How can i get an exact number of uptick/downtick number of trades for each for a given time period?
