Hi, I am used to using workspaces in other platforms and loading different chart templates onto the workspace. The user has the ability to save a workspace or for that matter a chart template. Sierra uses chartbooks. Is a chartbook the same as a workspace and where does one actually save a chart template in Sierra? Thanks! |

We simply are not familiar enough with other systems that use "Workspaces", so we can't say how they relate to "Chartbooks". If you are using multiple chartbooks (which you do not need to), then the idea would be to have a collection of charts that are somehow "related" within a single chartbook. Perhaps a single symbol, or charts that require references to one another. Refer to the information for Chartbooks here: Chartbooks (Workspaces): Introduction With regards to "Templates", we recommend you simply save a Chartbook with a chart setup the way you want, then duplicate that chart as needed. Hi, Does the chart itself have a name that can be assigned so if I am in a different chartbook, I can scroll through a list of chart names and decide to open one of those charts in the particular chartbook? How and where do I assign a name to a particular chart please? Thanks! |

I think a workspace is called a chart book in sierra and a chart template is referred to as a study collection...... Would you agree? |

Would you agree? You can certainly look at it this way. Just keep in mind that Study Collections only apply to the "studies". To get an entire chart setup the way you want, you would have to duplicate the chart itself. -- You can set a name for a chart at "Chart >> Chart Settings >> Display >> Title Bar Name" and the "Use Title Bar Name as Tab Label" settings. Refer to these here: Chart Settings: Title Bar Name (Chart >> Chart Settings >> Display >> Chart Display Items menu) But, chartbooks are invisible when you are in a different chartbook. So you can not view the list of charts for a chartbook unless that chartbook is the active chartbook. This is discussed here: Chartbooks (Workspaces): Introduction These are the reasons why you can not make a direct comparison of how they function. You need to determine what will work best for you with the way that Sierra Chart handles these scenarios. You also have the option of using "Sub-Instances", which will give you access to another Sierra Chart instance with its own chartbooks, which may work better for what you are trying to do, as you can then "see" multiple chartbooks at once. Hi, Thanks for your detailed response. With regards chart books and study collections, one can make backups of these so that settings arent lost. I have spent hours and hours today trying to set up a single chart to get it to look like the charts I use on ninja trader. Eg colour of background, grid lines, font etc etc. I am really worried that I will loose this chart. How can I take a backup of it so that if this chart gets deleted by mistake, I can also revert to the backup that I saved after I made all the changes please? |

Sierra Chart makes backups of files, but these are still stored on your local computer under the Sierra Chart main installation folder. It is your responsibility to determine what you want to backup beyond this and how you want to do it. Right I just saw that - one question please: Do you know if global settings > graphic settings is also backed up? I couldnt find it in the list: C:\SierraChart\Backups Cheers! |

This is the file Sierra4.config. It is backed up to the Sierra Chart backups folder.
