I want to Sign Up for the Sierra Denali/Teton Service Package . . . but

Following your email of 17 October 2022, please review the following.

Many thanks for extending my Trial Usage until 28 October 2022. I want to sign up for a Sierra Denali/Teton Service Package . . . but

There are some Sierra instructions I understand and, as previously pointed out in my initial contact email some weeks ago, there’s much more I’m still utterly confused by, and thereby unable to proceed until given some clarification and guidance.

I shall first describe what I do understand.

1. The Exchange Fees. These are billed in full each month no matter when they are activated. Some exchanges offer a trial until the end of the month in which it was activated. So it does make sense to wait until the start of a new month before activating exchanges to take advantage of the trial.

Regarding the above statement, as my Trial Usage is soon to expire on the 28 October, would it not then ‘make sense’ to set up my payment for the Sierra Service Package in conjunction with my first months exchange fees on the 1 November 2022?

I also understand the following statements:

2. The cost of the Sierra Chart Service Package which includes the Denali Exchange Data Feed. The Denali Exchange Data Feed is included with Service Packages 10, 11, and 12. Refer to the Service Packages page for pricing for these packages.

Okay . . . and

3. The Denali Exchange Data Feed is not specific to any particular broker or clearing firm or Trading service. It is a Sierra Chart data feed which you can subscribe to and pay for directly from your own Sierra Chart account without any involvement of a broker.

Okay . . . understood. That’s what I want, please!

However, as far as my confused understanding goes, the following apparently contradictory statements not only appear to present the classic ‘chicken and egg’ conundrum, they also negate what I understood, or clearly, misunderstood from the previous statements. Consequently, I’m unable to proceed with any sensible confidence and would greatly appreciate some clarification and guidance. For example:

4. It provides market data only. It can be used with any Trading service including the Teton Futures Order Routing Service. Refer to Integration with Trading Services for setting up the Denali Exchange Data Feed with your Trading service.

Sorry, I just don’t get the point of that statement if I’m already signed up for the Sierra Denali/Teton Service Package 10 or 11, or which ever is appropriate for my trading intention that is to trade Micro Futures on the CME.

But the following confusing statements add yet more bewildering ‘chicken and egg’ scenarios.

5. It must also be understood that in order to use the lower-cost nonprofessional CME exchange fees that these require a verified live funded futures trading account with a supported Trading service and Sierra Chart needs to connect to that account or in the case of the Sierra Chart Order Routing Service have that account assigned to your Sierra Chart account

Supported Trading service! Okay . . . and?

6. The supported trading services are as follows.

Interactive Brokers Live account
Rithmic Live account
Teton Order Routing Service
CQG Live account

Hang on! Isn’t the Teton Order Routing Service already included in the Denali/Teton Service Package 10, 11 & 12?

7. If you are a non-professional trader and do not have an account with a Trading Service that Sierra Chart directly supports, you cannot access streaming real-time data for the CME, CBOT, NYMEX, and/or COMEX exchanges unless you pay substantially higher exchange fees.

Now we seem to be going around in circles. Furthermore . . .

8. Activating exchanges is essential when using the Denali Exchange Data Feed to be able to receive the real time data. Otherwise, data for the symbols an exchange fee is not active for, will still be delayed.

Okay . . . so what comes first, the chicken or the egg? Admittedly, that’s a puzzle that’s impossible to answer, so perhaps the ‘horse before the cart’ is a more fitting analogy.

Moving on then to no lesser an important point:

9. In order to avoid paying exchange fees twice when using the Denali Exchange Data Feed with a supported Trading service, you will want to cancel any exchange fees that you pay to the Trading service since you will be using the Denali Exchange Data Feed for data.

Pardon my lack of comprehension but, for me, that statement is so utterly confusing. I mean, if I’ve signed up for the Sierra Service Package 10, 11 or 12, isn’t the Denali Exchange Feed included in those packages? And the ‘supported Trading Service’ I understand to be Teton, right?

See what I mean . . . more going around in confusing circles that lead to a mind-boggling headache!

10. If you always want Sierra Chart to be connected to your Trading service and want to have the Denali Exchange Data Feed integrated with that service, then it is not necessary to perform the steps in this subsection. In this last case, follow the Integration with Trading Services instructions instead.

And thus we complete the circle of negation with no end nor resolution. Furthermore, it is not clear that, if the Denali/Teton Routing Service Package provides cost-free direct data to and from the CME Exchange, then, apart from the Exchange monthly fees, what fees would be chargeable by the broker?

And so, to summarize:

A. My Trial Usage expires a few days before the end of October. Clearly, it would make ‘sense’ to initiate an account with the CME at the early part of November. Can you kindly advise how and when to follow whatever procedure is necessary to set up the appropriate Sierra Service Package for my trading intentions. That is, to trade Micro Futures via the Sierra Trade Window with Live Data to feed my Numbers Bars/Delta charts.

B. Please note, I will also want to use a Simulation Trading account to practice before going Live.

C. I will want to pay for the 3-month advance package.

D. Once Sierra Support has clarified the way I should proceed, I will contact Stage-5-Trading to transfer funds into a broker account. Though, I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s another ‘horse and cart’ scenario. On that point, I await your instruction.

Many thanks

Graham Denney

PS. While getting to grips with formatting the Sierra Chart demands a massive learning curve, the more I begin to master the basics, the more impressed and appreciative I am for the rewarding amenity of such excellent software.

Further Note: At some point in the near future - maybe June 2023 - I will move the the Philippines. Can you confirm if the Denali/Teton package will be operable in that region, and if I'll need some form of fast internet connection such as StarLink?

Thanks

1. It is not possible to make the dates coincide. The exchange fees are always due on the first day of each calendar month. The Sierra Chart Usage fees work on a 31 day period, so even if you start out the same, the dates will diverge as not every month has 31 days in it.

4. The Denali Exchange Data Feed is not the same as the Teton Order Routing Service. The Teton Order Routing Service is the order routing that the broker uses to get your orders to the market. To use the Teton Order Routing Service you would have to have a broker that supports this service. We are not a broker. The list of brokers that supports the Teton Order Routing service is at Step #2 at the following link:
Sierra Chart Teton Futures Order Routing: Setup Instructions

5/6. In order to use the Teton Order Routing Service (or to connect to any service at all) requires that you are on one of the Integrated packages (10, 11, and 12).

7. This is separate from the above. The CME Group has a requirement that you need to have a live, funded, futures trading account in order to qualify for their non-professional exchange fees. If you are setup with and using the Teton Order Routing Service, then you have this qualification.

8. It doesn't matter which you do first, but you will not get the data until both are done - activate the exchange and connect to your trading account.

9. If you are using Teton, then you do not need to worry about this. But if you were using another service (like CQG) then the broker that you setup your account with may also activate the data from CQG, even if you are using the Denali Exchange Data Feed. Therefore, you would want to ensure that you let your broker know that you do not want data from them.

10 A. Follow through the Setup Instructions for the Teton Order Routing Service:

10 B. There is a built-in Simulation Mode and there is also our Simulated Futures Trading Service. Refer to the following:

Simulated Futures Trading Service

PS. While getting to grips with formatting the Sierra Chart demands a massive learning curve, the more I begin to master the basics, the more impressed and appreciative I am for the rewarding amenity of such excellent software.

Thank you.

It is the exchanges who make this complexity. Not Sierra Chart.
