Is there a study that can look at the current bars volume as it is building volume, compare it with the previous bar or average of previous bars, and mark the volume bar as red if volume is less at that same point in time or green if more? For instance, using a 5 minute time period, at the one minute mark of the current bar the volume bar will be green if the current bars volume is greater than the previous bars volume was at the same one minute mark, or red if less. Thanks |

The only way to get the volume for a previous bar at a certain point in time would be to create a chart that is based on the time-frame you want. For example, you state that you want to compare the current bar's volume against the previous bar both when they were 1 minute into building. You would have to create a 1 minute chart and then determine where the particular bars are located in order to make that comparison. If you are wanting to see the result on a 5 minute chart, then on the 1 minute chart you would need to compare the 6th bar previous to the 2nd bar previous (the current bar would have started the new minute, so it is not of interest). Refer to the information at the following link for how to reference a bar that is not the current bar in an Alert Condition: Study/Chart Alerts And Scanning: Referencing Data Other Than on the Last Bar/Column In the Chart In terms of coloring the current bar based on the above, you would use the Color Bar Based on Alert Condition study. Refer to the information here: Color Bar Based on Alert Condition And if you do have to do what we suggest above with a separate chart, then you would need to have a way to overlay the results of the test. The easiest way to do this would be to use the Spreadsheet Formula study (which uses the Alert syntax) to create the test and then use the Study/Price Overlay to overlay that on your primary chart and then you can reference the Overlay in your Alert condition in the Color Bar Based on Alert Condition. Refer to the following for the Spreadsheet Formula: Spreadsheet Formula And refer to the following for the Study/Price Overlay: Study/Price Overlay Study For the most reliable, advanced, and zero cost futures order routing, use the Teton service: Sierra Chart Teton Futures Order Routing |

Actually I want this information the whole time the current bar is building, not just the 1 minute mark. As the volume bar accumulates volume it would be red, green or black depending if the volume was less, more or the same as the previous bar/bars. If volume really picks up it would change from red to green when it surpasses the previous bars volume at that same point in time. And if volume subsided toward the end of that same bar the volume bar would change back to red if it became lower in volume than the previous bar/bars. Sounds like I would have to create another chart for 1 second, 2 seconds, 3 seconds and so forth on up to 4 minutes 59 seconds, so 300 charts! LOL! Thanks anyway! |

You wouldn't need all the different charts, but you would need to add up the volumes for the different times (say a 1 second chart and then add 5 together for five seconds, etc.).

If I think I understand what you want to do, I think this will do what you want: 1. Add a Color Bar Based On Alert Condition study. 2. Change the settings on both tabs as indicated. 3. Sit back and enjoy watching realtime volume as your bar builds... :) |

I don't know what I did wrong but this did nothing at all on my volume. I also noticed some of the inputs on your screenshot are different from mine. Looks like your tab doesn't have "Study Subgraph Reference value when true". I set it to ID1.SG1. ID1 is Volume and SG1 is also volume. I'm pretty sure everything else is the same. It's on Chart Region 2 which is volume.

Yeah, I tried that too but don't see anything on the chart. What should I see? I thought my volume bars would change to red or green but since its on Chart Region 1, I'm not sure what I should see. As you can see it is listed on the top left but I don't see anything.

Here's a picture. The cyan numbers at the bottom of the chart are the volume on that bar, and they change as the bar is forming. The numbers at the top are the delta volume on the bar, and they, too, change as the bar is forming. I've attached a chartbook for your viewing pleasure :)

Looks like I'm going to need the advanced package to get that to work. I did notice your study was titled "Volume on Bar(Color Bar Based on Alert Condition)". Why is it titled Volume on Bar and when added to my chart its labeled "Color Bar Based on Alert Condition"? Thanks a lot |

No, you don't need the advanced package to get it to work. Did you update the trade symbol on the chart? Edit|Translate Symbols To Current Service

That got it, thanks! Not really showing me the percentage of volume on current bar compared to previous bar though while the current bar is forming. Thanks for your trouble though, I'm going to study this chartbook.
