data SCID files seem massive

Hi Engineering:

I wanted to transfer my data file to a new machine; however, in the process, I discovered many SCID files that were in the gigabytes. Some did not appeared to have been modified for over a year or longer, as I've use different data services at times, so there were SCIDs from symbols & data feeds that I'm not currently using. I felt confident in deleting them.

However, I immediately afterwards went to Data/Trade Service Settings, to check if this was due to incorrect settings on the Maximum Historical Intraday Days to Download... they read the default numbers, Non-Tick Data=186 & 1-Tick Data=186. I changed them to 31 & 5, respectively. I do not believe I need tick data further back than a few days.

After what seemed a long download of historical data, I checked the folder afterwards, & once again I have several files that are over 1 gigabyte, numbering almost 8 gigabytes total (see attached image).

Is this normal? Seems excessive, & might be affecting performance in addition to just using a lot of space on the drive. I have the Sierra Chart installation on a separate drive currently, & will eventually upgrade to a dedicated NVMe at some point. Nevertheless, by the time I cleaned up what seemed to be outdated symbols & instruments, I had eliminated well over 100 gigabytes of data, if I recall. This doesn't seem right.

After restarting Sierra Chart & checking the new SCID's, still seems larger than maybe it needs to be. But perhaps everything is fine?

Please advise.

These file sizes are not unusual. Those are actively traded symbols when the files are large.

Read the documentation here regarding the settings you mentioned to fully understand them and when they can be overrided:
