Bug on long-term charts with non-solid lines This happens multiple times over the last 2 months or so. On long-term charts (Yearly etc) Sierra and my PC become unresponsive if a LINE style is changed from SOLID to anything else (e.g. DOT). The PC stops and becomes unresponsive. After a minute the PC comes back, but only for 3 seconds or so - then freezes again. This goes on for ever. If one is able to change LINE back to SOLID - the Bug seems to go away. The freezing stops. It does not happen on all LINEs on Long-term charts. It seems to depend where the LINE is drawn. This also happens on two different instances of Sierra (one for futures one for FX) . I can reproduce this issue. Please look into this, since it can heavily interfere during the trading day. Forcing a re-boot TY |

We are 100% certain this is going to be a system problem on your side. Either with the operating system or video display driver. Please look into it. We cannot offer any further help with this. What you describe cannot be the fault of an application program using the Windows GDI. That is technically impossible. Furthermore, Sierra Chart is very careful in the way that interacts with the Windows graphics device interface to make sure that it does not draw significantly outside of the visible chart window. All coordinates are checked to be reasonable. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Other responses are from users. so changing the line type within Sierra causes a freeze is... A) my fault or B) the operating system's fault or C) my video display driver's fault ? Why does it not happen on all charts and lines ? Why does it work for Solid lines ? You want to stick to this reply to a customer ? Superior support . TY |

Actually, something just occurred to us about this. This might be related to a problem where Line drawings were not being clipped to the current window in some recent releases. It certainly is resolved in the latest prerelease and probably the current version. Update Sierra Chart by selecting Help >> Download Prerelease. Although, still it does not make sense for this to be occurring because the operating system itself should be performing a clip of a line to the current window. This is one of its basic functions. We would also not expect the whole system to freeze but perhaps it might because there is interaction with the video display. So to confirm, this is something actually within Sierra Chart triggering it from Line drawings which are offscreen but the operating system should not be behaving in this way to begin with. Update Sierra Chart to the latest release and you should be fine. Sorry about the trouble. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Other responses are from users.
