Dear SC-Support. Today I found out while observing my charts that there are differences between a time based chart and a Point and Figure chart according to TPO Value area Lines. The levels seem to be accurate on the time based chart. Calculating in ticks is activated and my charts are all in the same data format [CBV] [M]. So from this side the data calculation should be correct. I add two screenshots where I pointed out the differences between the TPO levels in the time based and the Point and Figure Chart. Do you have a clue why this happens? Thanks a lot in advance. Greetings Sven |

We are not able to reproduce this. When we put the TPO on, we get the same result regardless of whether it is a 1 minute chart or a Point and Figure. Can you please get us the Chartbook that contains that chart so we can take a look at the setup and why you might be seeing what you are. Also, let us know what the settings are for your Point and Figure options. Refer to the following for how to attach a chartbook to a support thread: https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=PostingInformation.php#AttachFile For the most reliable, advanced, and zero cost futures order routing, use the Teton service: Sierra Chart Teton Futures Order Routing |

This is really weird. I also tried range Chart and Reversal Chart. Seems like that any Chart except the time based Chart is giving me false TPO levels. I add my chartbook. |

We are seeing small differences in the results depending on the chart type. We will have to look into this further.

Sorry it took us so long to figure this out, but we had to dig deep in the code to see what was occurring. In the end, what we found is that for the TPO Value Area Lines study there can be differences due to the Chart Type. This occurs because each bar is processed to determine the number of TPOs in that bar (as opposed to the TPO Study that looks at the underlying data). Therefore, if the time for a bar crosses over the TPO Sub Period, then you will be missing the TPOs from that bar. For example, in a 2 minute chart, you are going to have multiple bars that make up a 30 minute period, therefore you would have a bar at 10:28 and 10:30. But in the Point and Figure chart, you may have a bar that extends from 10:27 through 10:32. In this case, the 10:30 period is not found and the TPOs for that period (10:30) are not taken into account. Hi John. Thank you very much that you still took the effort to find a solution for it. What you said about the underlying data was also my first guess. I mean it makes sense. TPO's are time based and point and figure, reversal, range, etc. are not time based, hence the calculation can be different. Since there is no mistake, I think we can close this thread. Thank you again for the support and I wish you a merry christmas. :) Best regards. Sven |
