Hi Support,

Is it possible to use sierra version 997 or lower with the new sierra real time data feed with a cts account.

I find the connection with cts on the lower versions is much more stable, smoother, and faster then the fix connection on the newer versions with no message errors timing out the data every few minutes.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

No. However, if you are not using the CTS market data feed, and instead the Sierra Chart Exchange Data Feed, then it will not matter.

And also from an engineering perspective, we see the FIX connection as definitely more stable. Certainly it had problems in the beginning but CTS has resolved those. And for order handling, we only can recommend the newer versions. Newer versions have more organized and stable order handling with CTS FIX.

We need to know about the "message errors timing out". When you see that provide a copy of the Sierra Chart Message Log. Here are the instructions:

Thank you for the update.

However can you explain to me why every time ive tried updating to newer releases including the latest full release why my screen moves slower along with the data. I have tried the Fast trade option and generally speaking when I move my cursor along the charts it freezes many times while the lower versions are completely smooth and worry free compared to the FIX connection versions im experiencing with. And those loosing connection messages every few minutes really seems to me that's something just not right.

I read on the board that there is still issues with historical contracts with CTS and defining those problems, but overall how the freezing on the screens or much slower pace be accounted for in reasoning. I guess this was my more important question.

Thanks in advance.

And sorry sierra support I forgot to add that I am using the Topsteptrader practice account as far as the issues im getting.

If the practice accounts are treated differently then live accounts then maybe this could be a reason.

Just wanted to clarify this point.

What you are describing is completely unrelated to CTS. Refer to help topic 30:
http://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?l=doc/helpdetails30.html

You should not be experiencing that at all. Must be some item described in help topic 30.

Disregard this.

It is normal and expected. We will prevent the Message Log opening when a FIX connection is closed without a logout message received.

Hi Sierra Support,

Apologize for all the questions but need to ask if in the future I intend to receive the Sierra real time data feed and suppose its with a CTS live account then does the Sierra data automatically override the CTS data feed.

In other words what im trying to determine is if order accuracy, speed of orders sent and speed of data will it be purely on the Sierra real time data side with no effect coming from CTS servers?

I guess another way of putting it is the Sierra real time data feed an independent stand alone data source that has no connection to CTS whatsoever and will be functioning within its own capacity for every facet of trade from sending orders up to receiving data?

And can you please comment what would using no trading account look like in the future with Sierra real time data and when is it expected to be available without trading account as per recent updated news?

does the Sierra data automatically override the CTS data feed.
Yes it does for the particular exchanges that you have subscribed to.

The Sierra Chart data feed does not affect order accuracy or speed of orders.

It does affect the speed of the data and you will notice that the data feed is very fast and complete.

The Sierra Chart Exchange Data feed is an independent data source with no connection to CTS. You still will use CTS for orders.

In the case of the CME markets, you will need a trading account. We have no plans to offer support for CME data without a trading account. That was decided against a couple of months ago.
