Hello, Sierra Chart application is taking up way too much space on my hard drive. For example, on the attached screen shot, the real size of the files and data is 166 GB but for some reason it is storing as 603 GB, and that takes up all of my 1 TB hard drive. I would like to understand how do I resolve this issue? Thanks.

Yes the actual size is 166 GB. Not the larger size. You can delete unneeded files. Refer to:

Yes, the actual size is 166 GB but Sierra chart is taking up 603 GB somewhere somehow and that link you provided doesn't help. It's the way Sierra charts is storing files on windows is making it take up all that additional 603 GB. I need to understand how to resolve that.

What you are seeing is completely a Windows storage issue. Do a Google search for Size v Size on Disk for explanations.

No that is not true:
but Sierra chart is taking up 603 GB somewhere somehow
Since the files are compressed.

I've been in touch with the Trading computers experts from where I bought this trading computer and they have told me that it's a Sierra Chart's issue because "specific size being store in the drive NTFS header allowing the data to not "take up" a cluster/block of storage, hence, not reported as On Disk (166GB) whereas the small files then take a full header causing the actual size to be dramatically larger (~600 GB). Actual size is therefore in-between the two range bounds far closer to the floor value."

Sierra Chart has no way to control the block size.

If you want to reduce the size of files, then refer to:
https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/DataSourceSettings.php#IntradayDataFileManagement

And increase the Intraday Data Storage Time Unit:
Data/Trade Service Settings: Intraday Data Storage Time Unit (Global Settings >> Data/Trade Service Settings >> Common Settings >> Common Settings)

Actually, they said if the software was open-source they would be able to solve this issue but it's not so pointing to a software glitch.

This is not making any sense at all to us:
Actually, they said if the software was open-source they would be able to solve this issue but it's not so pointing to a software glitch.

Solve it in what way?

We have never had anyone post anything like this. None of this is making any sense to us at all. Do they understand NTFS compression?
