Just to be clear, this is in the documentation: All Ticks/Trades received from the data feed are stored, independent of whatever this setting is. No data is missed by using a setting of 1 Minute. Your charts will still update at the same speed. This setting is also independent of the Chart Update Interval in General Settings.
1) So this means that if I set this to 1 minute, that all data coming in and displayed on the DOM (or a tick chart for that matter) will still show each individual trade/tick as it would if I had the setting set to 1 tick, but that when a chart is reloaded to show stored data, not live data, it would be limited to minute data--correct? 2) Secondly, if I have only one window, my DOM, open on my workspace, and I don't care to save the data at all and want to be more efficient, then I could check "Disable Data File Updating" in the DOM's chart settings, and no data would be stored to disk--correct? Yes to the first question. If we understand the 2nd question properly, then yes. So if you are doing a replay with 1 minute data, you will not see Tick by Tick price movement.
