I can type "1d" to switch to a daily chart, "5m" to switch to a 5 minute chart, and so on. But typing "1w" does not change to a weekly chart--instead it seems to change symbols. Can it be made so that "1w" changes to a weekly chart?

No. You need to use a standard keyboard shortcut for the Chart >>Bar Periods >> Weekly menu command: http://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?l=doc/doc_GlobalSettingsMenu.html#CustomizeKeyboardShortcuts Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support.
