I am looking to learn how to code. I don't even know python / c / or vb. Would someone knowledgeable be willing to recommend a course, path, or beginning language? I've heard python is a good start. I know very little else. I would very much like to delve directly into a language, however I have also heard that taking class on the basics of computer languages and algorithms. I kinda felt like the later would be a waste of time.

Two EDX courses. MITx 6.00.1x starts again in February and its followon will be .2x. These are Computer Science courses using Python as the language. Its more fun to code with than C/C++ and will get you understanding what you're doing. https://www.edx.org/course-list/allschools/computer-science/allcourses?page=1 Then for C use something like the Saylor course: http://www.mooc-list.com/course/c-programming-saylororg |

If you are planning to write indicators etc for SC i would recommend reading some basics about c++ on http://www.cplusplus.com/ (tutors). Next go through the SC ACSIL documents. Then use the editor and compiler delivered with SC and first try with slight modifications on the SC examples. C++ isn't easy but it is made easy within SC. |
