Kia ora,
Wanting to use Sierra Charts in NZ (wit TradeGuider software)and wondering what others are using for a broker. Wanting to trade stocks, currencies, futures and commodities, ability to go long/short and looking at using the trading DOM functionality on SC. Thanks!

I am in NZ.

I only trade Futures (long & short) which includes futures on FX and Commodities.

Using SC with CQG as the data feed and trade route..

I am a NZ citizen and tax resident and use Amp (ampfutures.com) in the USA as my broker.

You really want to trade all of that? This is not making sense to us.

The only choice would be Interactive Brokers for this and you are not going to get any technical help from us for that. You are going to get in technical trouble with them and with getting involved into many things.

Excluding stocks, if you want to trade futures and that is going to be generally the safest thing, we recommend using this order routing service:
Sierra Chart / Trading Technologies Futures Order Routing Service

Also please do not use CQG.

For the most reliable, advanced, and zero cost futures order routing, *change* to the Teton service:

IBKR will service all those products, but their data is unusable for DOM purposes. Just forget it. And NZ residents are not given access to CFDs (if you wanted that) since IBKR assigns a US account to NZ residents. CFDs are not permitted in the US... might have changed.

Also, if you are using a DOM for precision trading/scalping, you might find the latency to NZ a bit of a problem.

If using AMP to trade and CQG data for Asian exchanges (eg OSE), then be very aware that the data you see in your DOM will go from the exchange in Asia, to Chicago, to your PC in NZ. When you click buy, your order will go from NZ to Chicago and back to the exchange in Asia. The confirmation will then reverse that route, via Chicago, back to NZ. Incredibly inefficient.

The lowest latency trading you could do in NZ is maybe on Australian exchanges, using IBKR data... but see first paragraph. Or Trade CME "Globex" futures using Denali. ES is your only choice in Asian time zone for liquidity. And it is pretty good these days compared to the past. I recommend ES and Denali with AMP from NZ.

None of this a problem if not scalping. But you mentioned trading on the DOM... (which is useless for FX, BTW, unless FX futures)

You could also trade the NQ as well, but do keep in mind that many brokerages are forcing FULL margins on both ES and NQ because of the recent volatility overnight, which caused several lock limit moves, putting them at risk.

So you might be forced to trade the e-mini micros instead, such as MES and MNQ. Both often have better volumes of late in the Asian session, with a tenth of the margin requirement too.

I find NQ spread often too wide during Asian trading hours.

Thank you all for your thoughtful replies. Some great food for thought! Assuming some of you are based in NZ, are there any other great forums or places to connect for other fellow kiwi traders?
