From time to time my chart would disappear from my charbook. The attached file of the chartbook shows no chart. I tried to maximize and restore the window to no avail. I'm not sure if the chart is hidden. Is there a hidden function? How do I bring back the chart?

Go to the CW menu of the main window. Do you see the chart listed there? Select it from that menu and then select Window >> Restore and then Window >> Maximize.

It says "No Child Windows Open". So it's gone?!

Yes. Use a backup Chartbook:

Yes I've been restoring charts via backup chartbooks. However, this happened several times already in the past month. It happened on multiple chartbooks, but not all the chartbooks that were open at that time. I could recover the charts from backups, but it's scary that a chart would just disappear. I used these charts for automated trading, so it's very important this doesn't happen. Any way to further troubleshoot this issue?

Never in the history of Sierra Chart, has anyone ever reported anything like this. A problem like this does not exist within Sierra Chart and we think the issue you are having has to do with the operating system displaying the window.

Also refer to help topic 17 in case you are running custom studies:

Does this problem happen when a Chartbook is open? Or when you open a Chartbook, a chart that you expect to see is not there? In this last case, there must have been a problem saving the Chartbook. Or somehow the Chartbook file was changed in some way externally.

When this did happen, it always happened in the following manner:

* Open multiple chartbooks.
* Everything is fine.
* Click on each of the chartbooks to check. One of the chartbooks would be missing charts.

Some observations:
* This seems to happen only when multiple chartbooks are opened.
* At any one time, only one chartbook out of multiple open chartbooks was affected.

Every charts in every chartbook has custom studies.

Ok then what is happening, is that there is a failure to create the windows because there are too many of them. This is due to an operating system limitation.

Use multiple instances of Sierra Chart to distribute the Chartbook's among multiple processes:
Using DTC Server for Data and Trading in Another Sierra Chart Instance

And you should run Sierra Chart in Safe Mode to rule out custom studies as being a cause.

So this problem is not caused by resource constraints on the computer--too little memory/CPU, etc. I'm running Sierra Chart on a virtual private server. If I configured more memory/CPU, Will I still run into the same problem?

How many chartbooks can be opened simultaneously? I only had max of 5 opened. Each of the chartbooks contains only 1 chart. Each chart has at most 2 custom studies and at most 8 SC studies. This doesn't seem like a lot. The entire VPS is dedicated to running Sierra Chart. The VPS has 4GB RAM, 2 Core CPU, and 80GB SSD, of which only 17 GB is used.

It is caused by limitations in Windows. Sierra Chart has no limits on the number of charts or Chartbook. None at all.

We really recommend you use a dedicated server.

However, five Chartbooks with one chart is certainly not a problem. Another thing you can do is to enable this option:
General Settings Window: Destroy Chart Windows when Hidden (Global Settings >> General Settings >> GUI >> Application GUI)
