I found this comment on forex factory "Also, there is SierraChart, they do also have a lmax connection for trading, but also a lmax datafeed only connection, where you dont even need an account to get data. Its pretty good for charting." Is this correct? I have an LMAX account but I do not want to incur the FIX protocol inactivity fee so I haven't signed up to use it with Sierra Chart yet... However it would be great if I could do charting in Sierra and do order entry via the web client. How can I activate this data feed? |

Unfortunately, Sierra had to discontinue it because Lmax did not allow them to distribute their datafeed to non-lmax-customers.

This is not true. LMAX did not want the data feed obtained from the FIX connection distributed to anyone who is not authorized to use the FIX connection. Therefore , a LMAX customer still could not use it unless they had a FIX account. Otherwise, we would've been able to offer it to other LMAX users. Based upon feedback on this Support Board at the time that we stopped the data feed, nearly everyone if not all, already had a LMAX account. There was only about three or four people using it. It was not like there was any significant unauthorized use, if at all. Their requirement, goes beyond that of futures and stock exchanges who allow their FIX data feeds to be redistributed to authorized users or to those who pay exchange fees. Therefore, this whole requirement makes no sense. It is unheard of. We can demonstrate to them, that we can control access to those with LMAX accounts. And we explained this to them. Right now, we redistribute the CME data feed and it goes to those people who have trading accounts. We just make sure they have a trading account based upon a technical method. LMAX will not allow anything like this. We asked them about this, the basic answer is they are an exchange, they work with brokers and do not want to offer the FIX service to the little trader who does not want to pay the the FIX fees. However, if the JSON protocol is used, there are much lower fees. Although we are not sure if they would allow redistribution of the JSON data. Which really is necessary for the most ideal data model that Sierra Chart uses. One possible solution is we develop a backend service to route the orders from users through our server over to LMAX over a single FIX connection. Probably eventually something like this is going to come, but it's not going to be near-term . We would tend to think this would be something that might happen in 2015. Thank you for the response. I look forward to you implementing either the singular fix connection or the JSON implementation. It is a shame LMAX have that attitude, Sierra Chart and LMAX would make a great combination. |
