Hi Support... after updating to 1996, when I try to open my chartbooks for ES, YM, NQ, CL and GC, system hangs when trying to update chart data when first loading. Happened with ES and CL and had to force exit. Also, one attempt there was a windows error forcing SC to close. Downgraded to 1991 and all is working. Yes, I know you don't support Wine but something has changed impacting stability. I run 64 bit SC with Wine 4.17 and have had no issues till 1996. Best regards |

i'm using windows 10 and have a similar issue when loading chartbooks on a new instance after updating to 1996 just now. system doesn't hang like what OP said but what usually takes 1-2 mins to open the same chartbooks on previous versions is now taking more than 20 mins to open.

Regarding post #1, we need to wait for more feedback because we are not observing any problem ourselves. If we do not hear anything more, we would need to test your Chartbook. Regarding post #2, there is no difference in chart data loading times in version 1996 as compared to 1949 Release Date: 2019-07-14 (Using this as a point of reference to show all of the recent development has had no impact on chart data loading times). They are identical. No change at all. Make sure you are running the 64-bit version. see for yourself by loading chartbooks in a new instance for 1996 through File -> New Instance. chart data loading times are fine in the main instance. no problem there. but when loading chartbook in a new instance through File -> New Instance, it's clearly much slower in 1996. i downgraded to 1991 and the problem's suddenly gone. yes, i am using 64bit version. |

This must be a system issue on your side. We definitely do not accept this as a SC issue. Unless it relates to a certain study.

We will put together documentation on how to determine study calculation times and you can let us know if you see anything above where you do with the previous version. But this definitely cannot be due to chart data loading. Any changes would be based upon different behaviors by the operating system and other software on the system like antivirus software. We have too much experience with this. This is no different than other reports like this that we hear over the years that are not the result of Sierra Chart. Saying you notice a difference with one version as compared to another from our perspective is inconclusive because we know that differing versions can be treated differently by the underlying software on the operating system. Okay understood. Whether or not it's a system issue on my side, 1991 worked fine for me so in the meantime, I'll just continue with 1991. Maybe this problem will "go away" on a future release. Seems difficult to pinpoint the exact cause for these things.

We think we might know the cause of the problem. We are working on a solution to that. It might be related to this: v1996 - When saving a Study Collection, IDs of the studies are sequentially renumbered. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. See if the problem is resolved in version 1997 which we have now released.

I just updated to 1997 and loaded chartbooks from a new instance (via File -> New Instance) and it loads quickly now. At least the problem I had seems to have been resolved now. Thanks! |

Therefore, it was not a chart data loading issue, but instead related to study calculations. But not sure why it would cause the result that it did.

Yes but the end result was that my chartbook was loading much slower. Obviously as customers, we can't know what the cause is. All we can tell you is what we're experiencing as the end-user and what I experienced was my charts loading abnormally slowly. That being said, I trade naked charts and only use one study - volume, if at all. I was loading 3 chartbooks and 2 of them were clean charts with no studies whatsoever. I don't use any complex studies that require more processing to load. I find it interesting that it's something related to study calculations but since it seems to be resolved, I won't press any further. |

1997 was somewhat better. I was able to get charts to load after a second try. The first try, I started with no connection to data and then connecting to data after loading. SC froze on first attempt to load data for ES after chart book was up. The only way get SC to respond was to do a forced exit. On the second try, I connected to data first, then loaded charts. Seemed OK, but then when I went to exit, got a windows program error message. The error message froze without providing any detail in the bug report. Load times were normal. I've gone back to 1991 and all is OK Date Time Of Last Edit: 2019-10-07 14:24:44

In regards to post #13 we really do not see how we can help with this. If these are lower-level operating system issues, which we think is the case, then we do not have control over this. But we would say do not use the OpenGL Graphic Settings option if you are. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Other responses are from users. OpenGL is not selected. Not sure if it's important but I do use number bars extensively along with the latest emoji trading studies.

Hope this feedback is helpfull: 1997 in linux with wine 4.17 staging ( opensuse tumbleweed ), with no issue about loading speed. I haven't benchmark it, but really doesn't seem slower than windows10. About opengl, it actually works better on linux with wine than windows10: In windows 10, when I hover a price ( in buy or sell columns ) all text becomes black. This doesn't happen on linux/wine ( although the transparency on the buy/sell column still isn't correct as without opengl ). I updated graphic drivers on the windows machine, just in case, and still happens. |

Further testing on 1997 after reinstalling. On first try to load ES charts without being connected to data, below is the windows exception report. The chart did not finish loading. SC froze and required forced exit. I'm back on V1991 with no issues. In 1991 each chartbook (ES,YM, NQ etc) all load in less than 10 seconds including data updates.
