Dear support, As far I can read in https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/ReplayChart.html#ReplayMode "Enter Processing Step in Seconds" is used in the "Accurate Trading System Back Test Mode" to set the period of time to calculate studies in a multiple chart synchronized replay Could you please explain why "Enter Processing Step in Seconds" has to be set also in case of a "Calculate at Every Tick/Trade" multiple chart synchronized replay? If the calculation is done at every tick/trade I suppose that "Enter Processing Step in Seconds" is not needed anymore but is still requested as soon as I start a replay and I can't understand the reason thank you |

We just want some time to go through the code first to make sure that we answer this properly. Our initial answer is that it is necessary because it will interrupt the processing of the Intraday chart data for a particular chart at the specified number of seconds before going onto the next chart. did you manage to go through the code and find an answer? I still would like to have a deeper understanding of how I perform my backtest/replay. Thank You |

We are going to do this today or tomorrow. And we will make sure the documentation describes this fully. But actually we do know enough at this point that the reason the Processing Step In Seconds is required is that although there is a calculation at every tick, there still are multiple ticks processed per chart for the specified time increment in seconds before going onto the next chart to be calculated. Otherwise, the whole process would be incredibly inefficient. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Other responses are from users. I have one problem with this topic…if I play my chart with dom attached on chart update is effectively 20ms but when I replay all chart in chart book sierra ask me what processing step second I want and I don’t know what to put in. I put 0.01 but seems like lag,I don’t understand why I have to put processing step seconds if I am in calculate every tick/trade replay mode. I just wants same as real time, especially for 3 seconds chart with dom attached on. |

You are only asked for the "Enter Processing Step in Seconds" when you are replaying mulitple charts. This increment is used to determine how long to spend on one chart before processing another chart. The "Chart Update Interval" in this case plays no role.

From the documentation: When there is a multiple chart synchronized replay, the amount of time of data which is processed in each chart at a time, is prompted for when the replay is started during a multiple chart synchronized replay with the Enter Processing Step in Seconds prompt. This also applies when using the Calculate at Every Tick/Trade Replay Mode. Therefore, if you use a processing step of 5 seconds, then 5 seconds of trades will be processed at once before the next chart is processed.
So you need to determine what works best for you based on the replay speed you are using and what you want to see from the charts. For the most reliable, advanced, and zero cost futures order routing, use the Teton service: Sierra Chart Teton Futures Order Routing |
