I have full administrator rights and the chartbook or stdycollct files are not "Read Only" and permission is full control ... not sure what is going on. I also try re-downloading with the downloader and no luck. I am updating from version 1853 to 1875 and the new and old versions both have same error - I must be doing something that I did not know and cause this all of a sudden. Shall I send an error message log for analysis? |

This is going to be an operating system level file security/permission issue. Refer to: Error Messages When Opening Files Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Tried almost every matching item in the above article. Will uninstall anti-virus software and other suspicious items and try again. It seems to unwilling to let the program write to the data folder ...

When trying to load a new symbol - a *.dly daily data from your standard SC data service - it gave an error message: "Windows error code 2:The system cannot find the file specified." Obviously - but it is not there as it is a new symbol. Same error message if I add a new symbol to a new / blank - or any - chartbook. Running out of options - please help. |

This would be because the file could not be created.

Hello FFTrader, Did you check HardDisk space availability ? This happened to me from time to time when I didn't take care of my Hardisk being full. |

Yes I did. I have 400+GB on my 1TB SSD. |

I am planning to delete my user name and directories ... and put in a new user name and directories ... not sure if it works but without a doubt Sierra Chart will not write a new file or over write an existing file (e.g. a chartbook file, a *.dly file, etc.) Will do more testing with another backup administration account first to confirm before deletion. |

FFTrader - did you try to run SC as Admin? - check the folder and files permissions https://windowsreport.com/access-is-denied-windows-10/ - check this as well https://www.windowscentral.com/how-manage-file-access-permissions-apps-windows-10-april-2018-update#file_system_accesss_windows10 |

- check the folder and files permissions https://windowsreport.com/access-is-denied-windows-10/ - check this as well https://www.windowscentral.com/how-manage-file-access-permissions-apps-windows-10-april-2018-update#file_system_accesss_windows10 Did ALL of that as per answers from tech support. Fun fact, only Sierra Chart instances have a problem with creating in and writing to the folder. Other software on my PC seems to not have the same access problem. You are right about one thing and the fact of the matter is, there is a problem with that folder. As such, either I create a whole new user ID or create a folder from the root directory to circumvent the issue. Did BOTH together and it works. However, I still do not what the problem was. Partial solution: If I move the data folder directory to the root directory OR to the directory C:\Users\%my account%\, problem goes away. I cannot put it under C:\Users\%my account%\Documnets\. If anyone knows how to duplicate - or inherit - permissions manually ... I mean I tried it myself but failed consistently (after searching and using a number of ways as per Goggle search and also failed as per suggestion by Sierra Chart Support above).
