I had overnight positions with corresponding child orders and when the market opened on Sunday 10, the orders were cancelled with the message on the Trade Activity Log : Cancelling Child Orders due to no order update. How can I solve this so my child orders are not cancelled? |

You can set them to Good Till Canceled. There is a setting for this on the Targets tab of the Trade Window.

Hi, I had them on that setting, Good Till Canceled...any other reason why they may have been cancelled? |

You will need to contact your broker about this.

Hello, I had the exact same problem this morning, when my GC order got filled and when I checked it after a while I was shocked to find that there were no attached orders. Got the message "canceling due to no order update". This has to be a problem with SC as the attached orders were never sent to TWS and were canceled beforehand. Any ideas? This was quite a scare. |

Of the Trade Activity Log will tell you exactly what has happened to those Attached Orders: http://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?l=doc/doc_TradeActivityLog.php The Trade Activity Log is an excellent reference. When you use it yourself, and being you understood what you were doing with the orders and understand your order configuration, you are able to get a very good idea as to what has happened with orders without having to rely upon us. It is not a problem with Sierra Chart in regard to the described issue. All of the code which manages Attached Orders is known to be 100% reliable at this time. "canceling due to no order update" means the following: When Sierra Chart connects to a Trading service server, it requests all of the Open orders for each of the Trade Accounts on the logged in username. If Sierra Chart has an order in its order list with the status of Pending Open, Open, Pending Modify, or Pending Cancel , and this order is not in the list of Open orders sent by the Trading service, then it will be internally canceled. What this means, is that it is simply set to a Canceled state within Sierra Chart. Sierra Chart does not cancel the order with the Trading service because the Trading service does not know about the order. Sierra Chart will also check the Open order list with Interactive Brokers every 10 or 15 minutes to find out the state of the Open orders. Our best guess as to what happened, was before the parent order filled,TWS no longer indicated it as an open order and then Sierra Chart internally cancel the Attached Orders because they were considered orphaned. This is a safety feature. But the problem is, why is Interactive Brokers not reporting the order as Open. This has been an ongoing issue for more than 10 years now where TWS simply does not properly communicate the status of orders. In our experience, when we compare TWS to something like a TT FIX adapter, there is absolutely no comparison. The level of reliability is superior compared to TWS. When we add the capability to use the IB bracket order feature, then this is something which should solve this kind of scenario. However, the problem with this bracket order feature is this will bring up a whole new issue where sometimes the whole bracket order set gets in a stuck state that does not even get sent to the exchange by TWS. This is something we would often hear about and get complaints about in the past. We are tired of this stuff. We are simply tired of this kind of nonsense. This is why we keep away from the server side features. All of this stuff is nothing but a burden on us. People ask for this stuff, but then it creates new problems for you and for us. It's going to be provided as is. If people have trouble with it, our advice is to turn it off. We are not going to help with it. Thank you for the clear explanation. Why would the order get stuck and not get sent to the exchange? This seems 100% TWS related, as when I input bracket orders manually I need to hit the update button on them. If the user just checks that they have been submitted with SC then I don't see any problems arising.

We do not know why it would get stuck. And yes it is 100% TWS related.
