Processing efficiency question

Generally speaking, assume I have a chart with a lot of data, say tick data going back years. Assume I want to run a LOT of studies on that chart. However many qualifies as a lot.
From a processing efficiency/speed point of view, does it make sense to have several copies of the chart, each with a portion of the studies? Or is that worse because I would be loading all that tick data multiple times?
