Cannot create or open more than around 70 charts?

I've noticed that when I have around 70 charts open and try to create any additional ones past that, the chart that I'm attempting to create will basically load about a 2/3 of the vertical height (bottom of the chart window remains white) and then this half-way made chart will also be missing the control bars that it is supposed to have. The same issue happens when I'm trying to load multiple workspaces that add up to around 70 charts. One of those workspaces will inevitably end up not loading all of it's charts and on the last chart that it shows, it will be visually messed up like I described above with the missing control bars up top and a large white empty space at the bottom of the chart under the scroll bar (about 1/3 of the vertical height will be white). Please let me know if you have any ideas on how I can fix this. Thanks |

This is due to a problem/limitation in Windows. Not with Sierra Chart itself. You may want to enable this option which should help: General Settings Window: Destroy Chart Windows when Hidden (Global Settings >> General Settings >> GUI >> Application GUI) It is surprising that a major widely used operating system like Microsoft Windows, after about 22 years they cannot solve this. Thank you for the reply. Does this remake my chart after it destroys it, if I switch back to the chartbook in which the charts were destroyed? How do I view a chart in a chartbook if it's been destroyed? Also, I don't have the option for this feature under Global Settings > General Settings > General 4. I have version 1605. Is it only available in 1626? Thanks |

You need to update Sierra Chart to the current version. Follow the instructions here: Software Download: Fast Update The following has been added to the documentation: The term "destroy" is an operating system term which indicates that the operating system window for the chart is being destroyed when it is hidden. This is simply means that the resources associated with it, are removed. When a chart window is made visible again like when making the Chartbook it is part of, active, then the window is re-created exactly as it was before. There is no loss of information at all. This can't be due to a problem/ limitation in Windows. I've had 100s of charts running on older versions of SC with no problems.

Why do you say this? Does it make sense, that each users experience on Windows will be 100% identical with so much variation in configurations. Of course not. And you also have to understand that detached charts will cause this problem to occur with a smaller number of charts. Are you and therefore trying to therefore dump this problem on us? The only other possibility is the Sierra Chart process is running out of the available 4 GB of memory. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Perhaps I should rephrase it: "this isn't necessarily a problem with Windows" No, not at all, i'm not trying to dump the problem on SC. Your response sounds like any user running large numbers of charts is going to have problems, when I use SC with 100s of charts loaded. So I'm saying that hope is not lost for User791167. There could be multiple( preventable) reasons why he's having trouble loading more than 70+ charts. Eg Memory allocation, custom studies with bad code, corrupt chart books, issues with chart configuration. Date Time Of Last Edit: 2017-10-22 01:36:54
