Hi,

My installation of SC has 2 additional instances with their own data folders. I created the 2 instances to test out the functionality when I first installed SC. I've since made a bunch of changes to my main installation along with creating various study collections. What i'd like to do is delete both instances and recreate them. My understanding is that when you first create an instance it automatically copies across all the data and settings, is that right? So creating the instances again will copy across all current settings/data etc from the main data folder which is what i'd like to do ideally.

Is this okay to do?

What should I delete?

Thanks for you help
Sunny

Yes this is true.

You just need to delete the SierraChartInstance_# folders within the main Sierra Chart folder.

Hi. Just to add to this discussion. I'm currently syncing files between instances to get them all aligned. I'm following the documentation here but it's for separate installations, not instances:

Transferring Sierra Chart Settings and Data From Existing Installation to New Installation

Is it safe to copy the sierra3.cfg from main install to instance folders? Seems that it may conflict as the data folder locations may be stored in there? Can't find any documentation on this, but is it safe to sync the following configs:

Sierra3.cfg
GlobalSymbolSettings.xml
KeyBoardShortcuts.config
MenuCustomisations.xml
SCStudiesDefSettings.ini

Thanks
S

Yes, it is safe to copy those files over to a sub instance.

Make sure no copies of Sierra Chart are running when you do this.

And in the sub instances, make sure this option is enabled:
General Settings Window: Always Use 'Data' Folder within Main Folder (Global Settings >> General Settings >> Paths >> Files and Folder Paths)

Hi, Since setting up multiple instances with the "Always Use 'Data' Folder within Main Folder" option enabled, my instances are not being updated when I update the master version (exe from the main folder). Searched but no luck. Any idea why this may happen?

Thanks
S

They will be updated as soon as you exit them and start them again from the main instance using File >> New Instance.
