Hi Sierra Support, I'm willing to run a Sierra instance as a DTC server on a VPS. Would you have any recommendation on the most robust way to do that ? Run in a service ? Run in a user session automatically started? Thanks if you can share any info, I believe you do something quite similar on your own servers ? |

Sierra Chart is not designed to run as a service. You just need to log into a Windows account using Remote Desktop and set up a Scheduled Task through the Control Panel and have it automatically start. The method that we use is we set up a scheduled task to start it every minute so in case the process is exited it will start back up automatically. Even when it is started every minute it is OK because a new instance just shuts down if there is an existing instance running. It does not do any harm. We do not make OS recommendations. Other than to say Microsoft is going completely mad and insane with their new operating systems.

so 2012 is OK ? no need to ask for a 2008 downgrade ? I'm not asking for some commitment, just to have good probabilty it's not going to be a pain to set up.. What do you guys use ? Date Time Of Last Edit: 2017-04-22 22:13:34

Yes 2012 is OK. We do use that version ourselves. But 2008 is easier to work with and is more responsive through the user interface. Across a Remote Desktop connection Windows server 2012 has a sluggish behavior to it. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Other responses are from users.
