For security reasons, my TDA login has a dynamically generated password that continuously changes. Passwords generated by the token attached to the account expire within a minute of being generated. How can I connect the TDA account to Sierra Charts in this situation? Is there some way that Sierra Chart can prompt for my TDA password before opening the chart?

Are you currently having a problem connecting to your TD Ameritrade account from Sierra Chart because of this new security feature? We assume there still is a standard password but another password/key/number that you have to enter which may not be required on the connection Sierra Chart uses. The TD Ameritrade/thinkorswim security feature is not new. I have been using it for over ten years. I use it because I use a lot of public access internet and I did a lot of travel to Eastern Europe. I needed my trading account to be safe from hackers (a major problem in Eastern Europe). I could switch my TDA password to something fixed, but that would leave my trading account vulnerable to hackers and thieves. The BEST solution, of course, would be if Sierra Chart had a selectable option whether to prompt for the broker's (TDA, in this case) password, or not (your current default). Is this something that you guys could make happen? |

As a rule Sierra Chart does not use prompts during a connection process because it would interrupt the process especially if a reconnection is necessary. We do not have a simple idea how to help with this. It is possible to set the external service password on the command line for Sierra Chart. Refer to: Command Line Parameters Maybe you could create an auto hotkey script that displays a prompt to input your password, start Sierra Chart and then passes your password on the command line.: https://autohotkey.com/ You can also use Windows power shell: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb978526.aspx Also the TD Ameritrade password that you enter into Sierra Chart is encrypted and not easily decrypted. When you start Sierra Chart you can choose the option whether you want to save the Sierra Chart password or not. If you do not save the password, it would not be possible for someone to access your TD Ameritrade account even though the TD Ameritrade password is saved into Sierra Chart. Do I actually need to connect my TDAmeritrade (thinkorswim) account to Sierra Charts if I only use Sierra Charts for signals and don't actually execute trades from it? If that is the case, then all I really need is the live data feed, correct? |

Do you require real-time stock data? If so, you just need to use the Sierra Chart Exchange Data Feed: Sierra Chart Exchange Data Feed And you do not need to use TD Ameritrade.
