Hello, Why would my Sierra Chart program crash when I enter certain stock symbols? For example, this morning I entered TOPS which is a US traded stock and every time I entered it the program froze and had to be restarted. It has happened a few times over the past few weeks. Most symbols work fine, but sometimes I enter a symbol and it crashes. Please let me know any possible solutions as this is very frustrating while trading. Thanks |

Are you using the Volume by Price study on those charts? Also, is this an Intraday or Historical Daily chart? Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. You will need to increase the Volume at Price Multiplier: http://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/helpdetails30.html#h30.23 Also soon, this kind of issue will not cause Sierra Chart to freeze because of how Historical Daily data will be loaded. Ok. By changing the multiplier does that affect the volume by price data on other charts that currently load normally?

It will affect other symbols within the same chart. You really have to be careful with using the Volume by Price study on a Historical Daily chart, which we assume you are using, and changing the symbol. You can definitely run into trouble like you have. Would be best to use an Intraday chart: Chart Session Times: Creating Daily Bars with Custom Session Times Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Can I use the intraday chart on a daily chart? The way I have my charts linked is that my intraday charts are linked to a daily chart. This way when I change the symbol once all of the charts change at the same time. I tried changing the daily chart to intraday, but as soon as I click Daily time period it automatically switches it back to historical. Thoughts? |

You can create Daily bars from Intraday data as these instructions explain: Chart Session Times: Creating Daily Bars with Custom Session Times Also set Chart >> Chart Settings >>Chart Data Type to Intraday Chart Only. This is the best way when using the Volume by Price study with daily bars. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Other responses are from users. Nice. That combo worked. I was able to load the ticker TOPS without it crashing. Thanks! |
