status bar will not hold the position that I want

For the longest time I've been using a vertical control bar and the green status bar was located at the bottom of the control bar, a little sliver of green, just enough to see it. I've recently switched to a horizontal control bar and now I am unable to get the "little" sliver of green at the end of the control bar, it's either the full width of the status bar (in my case that's 3 inches) or nothing (when the control bar border comes into contact with the green the green immediately drops to the lower level). Is it possible to have a little sliver of green at the end of a horizontal control bar, or is it all or nothing?

What you see is normal because it has to do with how the control bar items are arranged on a horizontal floating control bar.
