Hi, I feel like there might be something simple that I am missing, but whenever I try to update Sierra Chart (from version 1316), after attempting to lauch Sierra Chart the process "breaks", Sierra Chart does not start and I am forced to restart my system to terminate the "bad" Sierra Chart process. For whatever reason, rolling back to version 1316 allows Sierra Chart to start fine.

I attempted to install the most recent version 1332 today.

I enabled the microsoft redistributable option before installation commenced.

Again I feel like I may be missing something small and hopefully I am not so stupid ;-)

Could you please install a new copy of Sierra Chart into a separate folder on your system and let us know you have trouble starting that. This allows troubleshooting without interfering with your current installation.

If you have trouble starting that, we would like to look into this using remote assistance to understand the problem.

I installed to C:\SierraChart3, and the launch still fails.

What is necessary to conduct a remote assistance session?

Please set your telephone number here and let us know when that is done:

Before we get further involved in this, are you running any kind of antivirus/anti-malware/firewall software?

Because a problem like this is highly unusual and those programs might be blocking Sierra Chart.

Could you please temporarily disable that completely and restart the system and see if you can then start Sierra Chart.

Thanks for this oh so simple solution. Sierra Chart Updated is now starting.... maybe odd that the original install was allowed by avast...

Although this is perhaps not an entirely suitable question, as I am currently using Sierra Chart from my general purpose system, is there really any benefit to running avast or other anti-virus software? I do not venture far of the "beaten path" in www world, and also I have heard that antivirus software is only useful against "old" malware...

Our position is just to be careful and do not download or use any executable code that is not from a known trusted source.

And in the web browser use programs like No script (if you are using Firefox). For a virus scanner we just rely on Microsoft Security Essentials.

Considering the above, we do not think any other security programs are needed.
