Overlay causing Sierra to slow down

I have a USOil overlay on the EURCAD chart which works fine and has no overall impact on Sierra. If however, I try to overlay the same USOil onto the GBPCAD, Sierra becomes unresponsive/ slow to respond. The way that I got around the issue is to have a separate instance of USOil for each chart that I need to overlay.

Is there a better way to apply an overlay than above?

same problem here -I have the following overlays on two different charts that slow it to a crawl- so much so that i close the chartbook most of the time and only open it to take a quick peek.
a jpn225 with ftse100 djia30 dax30 overlayed; and a eurusd with GBPUSD,AUDUSD,USDJPY,USDCAD overlayed
5min charts with only 4 days loaded.

The problem you are experiencing is documented here:
https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/helpdetails30.html#h30.3

You will need to use separate source charts for each chart it is overlaid on if these destination charts use different time frames per bar.

Regarding post #2, we are not totally sure of the source of the problem in your case. The same help topic may apply although it may not. As you explained it, we would not expect for you to have a problem with this.

I have also seen this BTW - even when using matching time periods.

I believe I saved the chartbook with the high CPU usage issue so I should be able to provide it, will have to look.

If anyone still is seeing high CPU usage, we do need to get a Chartbook to analyze this problem. It is easiest for us if the Chart Book has no more than 2 charts in it.

Here are instructions to attach a chart book:

My charts are slowing significantly because of the Overlay and Study/Price Overlay studies. Attached is the chart book. Can you take a look and advise

We are testing this to see if we observe the problem.

At the time you notice this, do you see any messages periodically being added to the Window >> Show/Hide Message Log?

We do notice the high CPU usage.

We wondered if this is due to recent changes with the "Time Line" study but we removed all of those and it did not make any difference.

How do you know it is due to the Overlay studies?

I didnt see any messages added to the Message Log when that happened. I suspect the Overlay and Study/Price Overlay simply because I used quite a few of these in that Chartbook. I also used 1 Bar Volume profile for 30 min and 5 min chart. Dont know it is due to the Volume at Price indicator. I read the instruction on the High CPU usage and did whatever possible like reducing the number of days of Intraday charts to minimum possible, increasing the chart update frequency to 950ms and stuff but I still noticed the charts slow down quite a bit,not frozen completely but very slow to scroll and open study window and everything.

One thing I noticed is that When I first started Sierra and load the Chartbook, everything seemed smooth and normal. After the charts run for a while likr 10-15 mins, then the slowdown occured

Save the Chartbook and then go through all of the charts in the Chartbook and remove all of the Overlay and Study/Price Overlay studies and see if it reduces the CPU usage.

You can then close the Chartbook without saving it and then reopen it to get back the original configuration.
