I'm using a custom study which prints strength (SG1) and weakness (SG2) indicators by analysing the bar characteristics and volume. I'd like to produce alerts when the signals print. Is this possible without knowledge of how the indicator is working?

Yes, by looking at the values in the Study Subgraphs. You can check these with the Chart Values tool: https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/doc_Tools.html#ChartValues Here is the documentation for Simple Alerts: https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/doc_AlertCondAndScan.html Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Thanks, but it seems that this custom study does not actually display any values in the chart values tool other than 1!. The study does have various features including painting bars and displaying triangle up/down. Is there a way I can code the alert to reference what appears on the chart (if bars change to red then alert?). Sorry, I'm sure this is very amateurish... Thanks

The general answer is no if you cannot determine what the study is doing from the numeric values in the study Subgraphs.
