Hyperthreading is disabled through the BIOS settings when you restart your computer. If you want us to have a look at the problem again using remote assistance, we can do that. Just let us know. It appears the problem was due to antivirus/anti-malware software. During the initial communication in this thread, it was not clear that this was the potential problem. We suspected it during the first remote assistance session and it was confirmed during the 2nd remote assistance session. We excluded the Sierra Chart program and scid files from being scanned by Microsoft Security Essentials. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. After you do that you need to re-download the data by selecting Edit >>Delete All Data and Download. You should be OK. And we also recommend taking the time to see how you can disable hyperthreading on your system. Contact the computer manufacturer about that. Our impression is that's going to double the performance.

So, as I am scanning this board for input about my plans to build a new box this year... it sounds like hyperthreading is not recommended, which would make a desktop i5 as good as i7 to run Sierra Chart?

We see what we said about hyperthreading previously. We really are not knowledgeable about it to really know if it would make an improvement to Sierra Chart to not use it. What we said was based upon some common sense reasoning but it may not even be accurate. So please do not put reliance upon what we said because we do not know enough about the exact implementation of hyperthreading by a CPU to know if what we said is correct.
