Missing Formulas in shared SS

Hello,

I shared a spreadsheet trading system to another computer (along with the custom dll's and chartbook and charts). The charts all opened and the spreadsheet with the correct number of sheets opened. However, none of the formulas were present in the spreadsheet.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong? I verified the ss was saved. I noticed that the ss file has a different extension than in the Sierra documentation, but I assume that's simply a minor oversight after changing the type of ss you use.

What is the file extension of the spreadsheet file?

And do you know if the other computer is using Sierra Chart with New Spreadsheets or Old Spreadsheets.

The spreadsheet extension is .scss. The other computer has a brand new installation of SC (it's my partners computer who is also trialing SC) and I'm not sure how to tell if it's old or new spreadsheet. He installed from the link on the download page for trials.

Thanks for your help.

If is running Old Spreadsheets, then what you describe will happen.

You can tell whether it is running Old or New Spreadsheets by looking at the second line of Window >> Show/Hide Message Log:

Could you attach the spreadsheet file here. It can be attached privately. Here are instructions:
https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=PostingInformation.php#AttachFile

And tell us where in the Spreadsheet you have at least one of the formulas.

On the other computer, update Sierra Chart with Help >> Download Prerelease. Not sure if this is related, but there is a problem in some recent versions with the handling of complex formulas which could have resulted in an exception. This might have been solved in 1254 but definitely solved in the latest prerelease. We want to rule that out as a potential problem.

I tried the Prelease with no change. Since the system spreadsheet contains highly proprietary formulas it's not something I'm comfortable sending. I can tell you that the formulas themselves are simply about 10 < or > conditions strung together with AND's and OR's.

For the time being I'm going to remotely set up the spreadsheet manually. I'm almost certain we're both going to be subscribing so later on we'll pursue this some more. If there is anything else you'd like me to test (other than sending the ss itself) I'm happy to do so.

Thanks.

You can also send it to us by email. We are very interested in determining what the problem is.

There really should not be a problem with this. Maybe you can install another copy of Sierra Chart on the same system and try opening the spreadsheet there with File >> Open Spreadsheet and see if there is a problem.

I just tried what you suggested on my own computer. Here's what I did: open a new chart, add a few studies including the Study for Spreadsheet Trading. I saved the spreadsheet. Then I closed the chart and the spreadsheet.

Finally, from the main menu I selected File >> Open Spreadsheet. No files showed up on the list at all, not the spreadsheet I just created or either of the other spreadsheets previously created. However, the .scss files are in the \Data folder and I can access the spreadsheets via the spreadsheet trading study.

This does not make sense. When you select File >> Open Spreadsheet, at the top of that window you will see the path to the folder it is displaying. Is it the correct path?

Path is default and correct. I've attached screen shots of the Open Spreadsheet dialog window and a shot of my Data folder.

If this is incorrect behavior, I'm guessing the problem is not the other computer but that mine is not properly exporting the .scss file.

EDIT: I just now realized another issue related to spreadsheets. I added the Spreadsheet Trading Study to about 10 charts (after I created and save the original sheet with the formulas). All charts in same chartbook and all spreadsheets named the same and all sheets in same spreadsheet.

However, what I just noticed is that the formulas are missing from all but one of the spreadsheets.

We want to focus on the first problem of the files not displaying. Select File >> Open Intraday Chart. Do you see any files listed?

Update Sierra Chart to the latest release with Help >> Download Current Version. Let us know if you still see the problem.

There are files shown on the Open Intraday Chart dialog window, but not on the Open Spreadsheet.

No change on downloading new version (I'm pretty sure I was running the new version.

Unfortunately, I believe today is the last day of my trial. I'd love to continue, but need this functionality to work. Please let me know what else I can do. Thank you very much.

We have extended your trial. Restart Sierra Chart.

There is a problem with the file filter in the version you are running. Update to the latest prerelease with Help >> Download Prerelease.

In regards to the missing formulas check the Formula Source Sheet Number setting:
https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/doc_SpreadsheetStudyInputs.html#FormulaSourceSheetNumber

If there still is a problem, what is the Sheet number?

I think this may have resolved the issue. I can now see and open spreadsheets for the File >> Open Spreadsheet dialog window. The text in the ss's and the various message log windows is also now of a more desirable formatting (smaller text, not as bold). Seems like it should be now.

Many thanks and thanks for the extra trial.

Now, in order to save typing in the formulas in all the other sheets, is there a way to do it efficiently?

Just to clarify, at this point only one of the twelve sheets has the formulas. I tried a recalc with no luck. I thought about deleting and readding the Spreadsheet for System Trading indicator, but am worried that will mess up the existing columns in the good sheet. Is there a way perhaps to delete the other sheets and then the SST indicator would force new sheets?

If you want to use the same set of formulas in the formula columns in all of the Sheets within a Spreadsheet window, then use the Formula Source Sheet Number input with the Spreadsheet Study to refer to one Sheet that has the formulas:
https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/doc_SpreadsheetStudyInputs.html#FormulaSourceSheetNumber

The formulas will not copy from one Sheet to another unless you are using one of the Spreadsheet studies which is using the Sheet where you want to formulas to be.

This will not be a problem.

You can do this. Go to the Spreadsheet window and go to the particular Sheet you want to delete and select Spreadsheet >> Delete Sheet. Go back to the chart with the spreadsheet study and select Chart >> Recalculate and the Sheet will be re-created.
