This posting is about the Sierra Chart Real-time and Historical Exchange Data Feed which is documented here:
http://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/SierraChartRealTimeFuturesStockDataFeed.php

Most users are not using this data feed. If you are an OEC data feed user, which also had problems at the same time, this does not apply to you.

In the US morning, on 2014-10-15, there were some interruptions for a few minutes on one of our servers for the CME data feed providing stock index futures data.

There have been some sporadic issues of this, affecting some symbols over the past month.

We are aware of the problem and we have made some code changes which have already been done to solve the problem. These changes are being tested before they are deployed.

The basic problem has to do with a large amount of market data being processed when tracking both the CME A and B multicast data feeds. This has not been a problem tracking only the A feeds.

There also was a significant amount of packet loss today on one of the servers. The origin of this problem is not clear and we have been working with Barchart on this problem.

Interestingly, this packet loss problem became more severe when we were using an analysis tool to try to track down some minor packet loss which we have been seeing lately. We are still looking into this issue but a restart of the server appears to have resolved the severe packet loss. The reason for this is not exactly known.

There may have been some multicast traffic coming into the network adapter that should not have been and a restart of the server stopped it. Although why that was causing significant packet loss, we do not know. Maybe the network adapter just was not functioning properly. We do use server grade Intel network adapters.

These last three paragraphs may not seem very reassuring, but this particular incident with significant packet loss, is a highly unusual event which we do not expect to occur again.
