The DTC protocol does not have a default encoding. The binary encoding was the first encoding but it should not be considered the default. However, the encoding request is a binary data structure. It is part of the protocol that both the Client and Server can agree upon a particular encoding to use and completely bypass the encoding request and response. We have already added the option to specify the default encoding in the DTC Server in Sierra Chart and it will be out later today.
