Post From: platform slowing with moderate load

Hi there,

My SCs platform is constantly slowing to a snail's pace and requires a restart [2-3 times a day] to relieve it, however even a restart does not fix it and allow the platform to perform as it should. Can you please read the following SKYPE conversation I had with a colleague who is a mentor to about 100 people about the use of SCs ie he is very knowledgeable as to the workings of SCs and the conversation covers or eliminates many of the possibilities [please view the tinytake screen shots]:

Hi Sam, hope all is well with you.. I've been trying to live with a constantly slowing SC platform but it is such a pain, not mission critical, but constant work shutting down and restarting. Performance wise, this first link is it going slow:

https://markseabrook.tinytake.com/sf/MTg0NDU1XzExNjI2NDY

..next shows performance with SCs closed and then opening up again:

https://markseabrook.tinytake.com/sf/MTg0NDYxXzExNjI3MDI

..then this is running ok:

..when I say ok it still seems to labour and I wonder if I have too much going on with many links between 4 charts..

Anyway would appreciate your thoughts, cheers, Mark

[9/06/2015 10:53:54] Sam van Doorn: When it is slow can you post a picture from the processes with the highest on top?
[9/06/2015 10:59:09] Mark Seabrook: ok mate
[9/06/2015 11:04:25] Sam van Doorn: 'When it is slow' I meant when your PC is slowing down.
[9/06/2015 11:13:23] Mark Seabrook: yip got that
[9/06/2015 11:13:32] Mark Seabrook: will do both
[9/06/2015 11:22:12] Mark Seabrook: https://markseabrook.tinytake.com/sf/MTg0NTkzXzExNjMyNTg

and restarted looks like this:

https://markseabrook.tinytake.com/sf/MTg0NTk2XzExNjMyNjI

does vary but seems less demand on resources when freshly restarted

[9/06/2015 11:36:29] Sam van Doorn: How much of your memory has been used?

This is my PC with an i3 processor and 8GB of RAM. I have two Sierra Charts running with about 30 charts open.

[9/06/2015 11:49:55] Sam van Doorn: It looks like your RAM memory is not been used properly. I think the program is constantly writing to and read from your hard drive.

[9/06/2015 12:12:11] Sam van Doorn: Sierra take almost all my memory. Therefore it is incredible fast.

[9/06/2015 21:32:54] Mark Seabrook: Ok Sam, here is my system specs:

[9/06/2015 21:34:19] Mark Seabrook: It looks like your RAM memory is not been used properly.

I would love that to be the case - can you expend?
[9/06/2015 21:40:08] Sam van Doorn: It looks like the system is slowing down because Sierra is writing to and reading from the harddrive. Do you have a mechanical drive or SSD hard disk?

[9/06/2015 22:04:12] Sam van Doorn: Mark, how many days must it load on a intraday chart?
[9/06/2015 22:08:22] Mark Seabrook: https://markseabrook.tinytake.com/sf/MTg1NTQ4XzExNjc0Njc

30 Days on 'Trade' Chartbook [11 charts open] and 120 Days on my Demo Chartbook [4 Charts open] - only those are open
[9/06/2015 22:09:11] Sam van Doorn: Okay, that is normal.
[9/06/2015 22:12:49] Sam van Doorn: What is your chart update interval?

[9/06/2015 22:21:59] Sam van Doorn: I don't think it has anything to do with Sierra. It is something else, but what ...?
[9/06/2015 22:23:45] Mark Seabrook: ..dam was hoping it was just one settings and voila (think)
[9/06/2015 22:24:56] Sam van Doorn: Do you have it all the time? From the first install?
[9/06/2015 22:27:27] Mark Seabrook: ..gee can't overly remember I don't think so, but certainly had it for months now. I remember asking SCs soon after install so must have been early in the piece. they were saying to keep removing chart components till you find the solution, close to impossible to administer IMO
[9/06/2015 22:29:19] Sam van Doorn: Have you done a complete new install?
[9/06/2015 22:30:54] Mark Seabrook: Windows or SCs - yes to SCs by going to Help\Download Current Version etc [yesterday - no change]

[9/06/2015 22:34:21] Sam van Doorn: But you do more with your PC then only Sierra, right?
[9/06/2015 22:37:10] Mark Seabrook: no this is my trading computer running just SCs, MT4, FXSynergy, Excel, Word, Camtasia, Chrome, ESET - all at the same time and that's it. Laptop for other stuff.
[9/06/2015 22:37:51] Sam van Doorn: Have you tried with only Sierra running?
[9/06/2015 22:38:12] Mark Seabrook: no ok will try that
[9/06/2015 22:40:57] Sam van Doorn: If it doesn't occur with only Sierra then an other program is influencing Sierra. So then you add another program and look if it slows down. If not then add another, etc.
[9/06/2015 22:45:13] Sam van Doorn: If it does occur with only Sierra on it then you can do 2 things.
Completely delete Sierra, start the PC again and install it again. If that won't help then you have to do the ultimate.... smash your PC in pieces ......
No, a complete clean install of Windows maybe ... (doh)
[9/06/2015 22:48:49] Mark Seabrook: http://markseabrook.tinytake.com/sf/MTg1NTk0XzExNjc2MTk

..here's vid of me scrolling and hand grabbing the M1 chart [scroll wheel runs free so this is as fast as the chart will scroll]
[9/06/2015 22:49:05] Mark Seabrook: nothing else open
[9/06/2015 22:49:35] Mark Seabrook: it is very slightly freer but not what it should be - still very laboured

[11:34:50] Mark Seabrook: Sam if I just load one single chart with nothing on it it flows [scrolls] like a dream. So it seems that with all the drawings on the charts it slows down - but that's weird as it should be able to handle studies - might have to ask SCs again
[11:43:28] Sam van Doorn: Yes, very strange. I have several dozens of charts open with very intense studies on it like numbers bars, P&F, TPO, etc. No problems at all.
Please mention to them that it doesn't use so much memory. I think that is the clue.

I look fwd to your response, regards, Mark
