We just tried both of those methods to change the symbol and the Trade and Current Quote symbol is getting removed properly from all linked charts (with Symbol linking) when a chart that has the option for "Clear Trade and Current Quote Symbol on Symbol Change" has the symbol changed. Please get us your chartbook so we can see if we can reproduce this with your setup.
