Ok, on a general basis, when someone takes a short does it appear on the ask or bid side? Repeating what John wrote above - There is not a way to know if a trade is the result of a long or short position. You cannot know whether the order action is to open a position or close an existing one. You cannot know whether someone 'taking a short' appears on the ask or bid side. Why? If I execute a sell market order, the trade appears on the bid side. If I execute a sell limit order, the trade (once filled) would appear on the ask side. In both cases I could be into a new short position, but the volume appears on different sides. The buys and sells you see in the profile are showing the aggressor side (market/stop), not the passive side. |
