To begin with, the definition of a Diagonal difference is the Bid at a price level minus the Ask at the next higher price, along with the Ask at a price level minus the Bid at the next lower price. It is not a ratio (it's a subtraction) and you have the direction incorrect in your statement and in your example. From your example, the comparison at the middle price is the following: Bid Diagonal: 93 - 21 = 72 Ask Diagonal: 11 - 67 = -56 This gives a dominant Bid side. That being said, the next item to point out is that the background coloring that are defined as "Separate" (such as the "Background Coloring Based on Separate Diagonal AskVol BidVol Percentage") are meant to be used with one of the "Split" profile options. From the documentation: When the Numbers Bars Background Type is set to display only a single Numbers Bar background, the Up Colors are used if the Ask volume is dominant (Ask volume is greater than the Bid volume at the given price). Down Colors are used if the Bid volume is dominant (Bid volume is greater than the Ask volume at the given price).
When the Numbers Bars Background Type is set to one of the Split options that displays the Numbers Bars Background on both sides, then the Up Colors are used for the Ask side, and the Down colors are used for the Bid Side. In terms of your questions: 1) We assume you mean no previous price, therefore at the bottom when performing the Ask diagonal or at the top when performing the Bid diagonal calculations. In this case it depends on how you have the Input for "Enable Diagonal Zero Bid/Ask Compares". Refer to the following: https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/NumbersBars.php#Input_EnableDiagonalZeroBidAskCompares 2) This is covered by the information above.
