When you have a chart active and type a symbol name directly (i.e. nothing special, such as AAPL-NQTV) the system is looking to open the data file for that symbol. If a data file does not exist, it finds the closest match alphabetically. If a data file does not already exist for a symbol, then you need to type in a slash first, then the rest of the symbol (such as /AAPL-NQTV).
