You would have to have a separate chart that has the bars at the increment of the Sub-Period of the TPOs (typically 30 minutes) and add the Volume study to that chart. Then use the Study/Price Overlay to overlay the Volume study from the 30 minute chart to the TPO chart. Just be careful with this, as you stated it only displays properly when the Letters/Blocks are in their own columns.
