Yes, you can have the Sub-Instances in Simulation Mode and the Main Instance in live trading. But as you point out, you can not do the opposite. When a Sub-Instance is in live mode it is sending the trade through the main instance which then sends the trade to the trading service that it is set to, even if the main instance is Simulation Mode. But when in Simulation mode a sub-instance will just keep the trade to itself.
